Staying at Canuck Place Abbotsford – Dave Lede House
Staying at Dave Lede House
In 2009, Canuck Place recognized that the organization was only reaching 20–25% of BC and the Yukon’s children and families who need pediatric palliative care. Armed with passion, expertise, and a team of community partners and individuals, Canuck Place embarked on a quest to open a second hospice in the Fraser Valley—where over 45% of the children in the province live. In January 2014, with a donation of $4 million from the Dave Lede Family Foundation, $3 million from the Province of BC, and a further $6 million raised by Canuck Place, a second location was opened, Canuck Place Abbotsford – Dave Lede House.
Dave Lede House (DLH) in Abbotsford is Canuck Place’s second provincial purpose-built location, providing pediatric palliative care for children in the Fraser Health region, and from across the province. In 2018, Canuck Place increased in-home clinical consultations to support families at times of fragility and at the end-of-life. In addition, Canuck Place also introduced inpatient care at Dave Lede House with four medical beds and four family suites that reflect a phase-plan starting with weekends and ultimately moving to 24/7 inpatient care in 2019.
