Pediatric palliative care at Canuck Place
Canuck Place is the only pediatric palliative care provider in BC and the Yukon. We make a personalized care plan for every child and family on our program to meet their needs.
Children aren’t just small adults, and a children’s hospice isn’t the same as an adult hospice. On average, a child is on the Canuck Place program for 6 years. We’re with them and their families from diagnosis to illness, to death and beyond. Families are typically on our bereavement program for an additional 3 years.
Canuck Place is where care and play combine. Where memories are made and where kids can be kids.
Family services
We’re here for you. Our family-centred approach to pediatric palliative care aims to keep families whole, especially during uncertain and difficult times. That might mean medical respite for rest and renewal; grief and bereavement counselling; or creating sacred mementos that capture never-ending love.
Our expert team works one-on-one with families to create a unique care plan. Because no one should walk this journey alone.
Refer a child
Canuck Place accepts children between the ages of 0-19. Anyone can refer a child to the Canuck Place program, including families. (The family must be aware)

Pediatric palliative care research
At Canuck Place, clinical care and pediatric palliative care research go hand-in-hand. We believe engaging in research makes us better at responding to the changing needs of families. Our attitude of inquiry allows us to gain specialized knowledge through active research—and it’s this spirit of curiosity that allows us to see children and families for who they are, not as a medical condition.
Pediatric palliative care training & education
As a leader in pediatric palliative care, we believe in sharing our knowledge. Each year we train more than 13 physicians and have a rotation of trainee physicians at all times.
We also support our clinical team with ongoing professional development and comprehensive training, so they have the knowledge, confidence, and skills needed to respond to any need that arises for a child.
